Program Overview

Coach’s philosophy
The coaches are here for you; to teach and empower you to become a great Rugby player. We will provide the framework and knowledge necessary for you to achieve something remarkable when combined with your hard work.

Our goal is to be player-centered coaches who give you the skill, tactics and imagination to see the game, read the game and dominate.

Step up to the challenge
Be a Man. Challenge yourself to choose the rewarding path though it is the tougher path. Develop a strong work ethic and discipline that will allow you to reach your goals and succeed. Taking the hard road will give you the self respect and self confidence to carry you through any challenge.

Priorities
Faith, family, academics and athletics.

Remember why you are here.
1.     To get a good education and to graduate college with the skills to gain employment in your chosen field or continue to graduate education.
2.     To become an elite Rugby athlete and become a champion (league, regional and national).
3.     To safely enjoy all that you desire from college life.

The University and our club have rules and expectations concerning drugs, alcohol and personal conduct. Act responsibly and look out for your teammates. Your decisions and actions reflect on our entire team and program. Remember the hard work and sacrifices made by your teammates and alumni before you to build this Club. Remember Rugby is a privilege the University can take away from all of us.

The club
This is your club. Players own it and run it, the coaches just volunteer to provide guidance and structure. Step up and own your club, an organization built on the backs of the players before you, supported by parents, fans, coaches and administrators but the buck stops with you. If you see a need or are disappointed, step up, be a leader and improve the club. Contribute and build this club toward greatness.

Game theory
Rugby is a decision maker’s game. Players read the defense and teammates, check the space available, make a decision and work together to attack the space. At the highest level teammates see a weakness and both know that the play is ON.

Team description
This team pursues excellence in rugby athletics. It is a place for all that are tough enough to play. Playing together forges a bond where we support each other, on and off the field. Our team wears down opponents with our will to win and mental toughness. We are a physical fast team with conditioning and athleticism built from hard work. We work as a team with constant chatter, playing to the end, for the mate at your side.

The Conference
Colorado State competes in division I the highest level of collegiate rugby in the United States. Our conference is the Western Conference which is one of the toughest in the nation and includes Air Force Academy, Colorado, New Mexico and Wyoming. We play our conference season in the fall and then play an open schedule in the spring leading up to the regional and national playoffs. Colorado State is in the western region comprised of three conferences Texas, Central and Western. Two teams from the western region playoffs in the spring advance to the sweet sixteen round of nationals.

Practice
Practice starts the first week of fall semester and the second week of spring semester. Players may come out for the team the first month of the season and there are no cuts. Practices are 6-8 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on the intramural fields in front of the student recreation center. During January and February, the practice schedule is different as we practice inside and on the football turf field. Check the contacts page for exact practice times.

Dues
Team dues are $150 per semester. All players are expected to participate in at least one fund-raiser per semester half the funds raised go to the team and half goes to the player. Individual trips are paid for separately at a cost from $40-$100 or more depending on the extent of the travel.

Academic and eligibility requirements
